Tip of Borneo, Kudat

Welcome to TIP OF BORNEO -Tanjung Simpang Mengayau, Kudat, Sabah Land below the wind, East MALAYSIA

The northern most tip of BORNEO is locally known as SIMPANG MENGAYAU.

About 3 & 1/2 half hours about 215 kilometres drive from Kota Kinabalu City or about 40 kilometers from Kudat town, a historically important town in the very north of Sabah Simpang Mengayau has remained relatively undisturbed and was recently "discovered" as a tourism destination.

Waiting for sunset around 6:20am....

For me, Tip of Borneo is a unique and superb natural landscape...

You will have to walk a little bit up to the first landmark 'THE GLOBE', the actual tip is still a further walk down the pavement.

From the top of the hill, you will be presented with a triangular rocky outcorp that protrudes some distance into the ocean.

The place is generally well-kept with proper maintenance and adequate facilities. Ample parking space is provided right at the entrance, as well as some shops selling snacks, the famous coconut drink, gifts, etc....

The view from the hill top is spectacular. To the south is the beautiful stretch of Pantai Kalampunian which boasts crystal-clear waters, to the north and northeast, is the view of Pulau Banggi and Pulau Balambangan.

Getting there from Kota Kinabalu...you can go by taxi or mini van or rent a car with a tour agent. Check with the Car Rental services for their charges. Four-wheel drives and saloon cars with permits are also available at the Indian Restaurant opposite the Health Clinic in Kampung Air.

It is a truly fascinating place to visit and a visit to Sabah should not be completed without having seen the Tip of Borneo...!

The end!
